Sarcoids are common skin tumors thought to affect up to 8% of the world’s equine population. They can occur almost anywhere on the skin of afflicted animals.
Dental care
Regular dental examinations should be an integral part of your horse’s preventative health care programme. We recommend booking in every 6-12 months to ensure your horse is comfortable and to detect any potential abnormalities.
Our vets offer a thorough examination of the mouth and teeth, teeth rasping and wolf tooth removal. For advanced dentistry procedures and treatment, we work closely with referral centres who specialise in this work. If preferred, we can also sedate and monitor your horse for an Equine Dental Technician but please ensure that you choose a member of The British Association of Equine Dental Technicians.
Vaccination
Vaccination plays an essential role in helping to prevent disease in our horse population. In the UK, we vaccinate horses against a number of diseases, many of which can be fatal or debilitating. Routine core vaccinations protect against equine influenza and tetanus. Other vaccines, such as EHV and Strangles, may be given according to your horses’ risk profile, but these are less common and the risks and benefits should be discussed with your vet.
Routine worming
Worming can be a confusing subject! The correct worming strategy for your horse is one tailored for your specific circumstances. Every property and pasture is different and our vets will be happy to discuss the solution that best fits your needs. For most adult horses, a simple strategy of regular egg counts through the grazing season with treatments targeted to high counts will be advised.
